Acclaimed Animation Director David Anderson’s Short Film ‘Tongue of the Hidden’ Chosen To Screen As Part of The
2008 Austin Film Festival
New York, NY (September 22, 2008) – Schofield Films has announced today upcoming ventures with directors David Anderson, Judy Starkman, and Gilly Barnes including a network television series and a short animation film. Award-winning Directors Gilly Barnes and Judy Starkman have been tapped to join the production team for the 2008 CNN “Heroes” project, which will be Barnes’ second production for the segment. Additionally, “Tongue of the Hidden” sees David Alexander Anderson joining forces with Iranian-born calligrapher Jila Peacock to bring the works of thirteenth century Persian metaphysical poet Hafez to life. Using only Hafez’ letters and words, they create an ethereal, shimmering landscape. To quote Time Out London “It’s powerful stuff”. It is anticipated that Anderson will be traveling with the film to Iran this winter.
Judy Starkman is an award-winning commercial director and documentary filmmaker. She has worked over-seas for many years producing, writing and directing documentaries for both British and American networks including BBC, CNN, ABC, and CBS. She’s currently specializing in short-form documentaries and doc-style national commercials. She has worked with Yahoo, Converse, HIP, and many others. Judy has also directed a short film about painter and former CBS correspondent, Bill Lagattuta. Her latest projects include commercial campaigns for Alli and MetroHealth.
Gilly Barnes is an award-winning director who has worked with a diverse roster of clients such as MTV, Nike, Sony, The Disney channel, ABC, NBC, Atlantic Records, ESPN, and many others. Barnes has also directed a number of music videos and special television series including a narrative series on Nickelodeon. Her short film “Wait Here”, which won Honorable Mention at the Hampton’s Film Festival is currently running in rotation on the IFC Channel. In 2002, Barnes received an Emmy® award for writing and directing a series of public service announcements for PBS. Her most recent national broadcast commercial projects were for Bounty and Arm & Hammer (currently in production).
David Anderson is widely known for creating innovative dream imagery by using stop-motion and cel animation mixed with live-action and a vast array of techniques and visual styles. The London-based director is also highly recognized for his role in Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer”, the 1986 music video that garnered accolades for its groundbreaking and innovative creation. Anderson has completed work on a new directing commission for BBC Channel 4 and has directed a number of memorable commercials including Mastercard, Eurostar, Royal Bank of Scotland, and many others. His most recent US commercial project has been with EURO RSCG and VESIcare directing the award-winning, animated “Pipe People” campaign.
