New York City (September 16, 2009) –Virgil Films & Entertainment is proud to announce the DVD release of I Am Because We Are, which debuted at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival and has screened at various international film festivals including Cannes.  Available for the first time nationwide on DVD, special bonus features including deleted scenes, interviews, and a photo gallery.  Filmed in Malawi, Madonna takes viewers into a country with more than 1 million orphans and shares the hardships they must endure.  The film, featuring former President Bill Clinton, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, and Dr. Paul Farmer will be available on DVD October 20, 2009.

Synopsis:

I Am Because We Are profiles Madonna’s journey exploring the lives of children who have been orphaned by AIDS and have suffered more than one can imagine.  Set in Malawi, Africa, Madonna leads us through many heart-wrenching stories that ultimately remind us how interconnected we all are.  We are introduced to a culture whose struggles will at times be difficult to watch, but will ultimately challenge us and call us to action. Trying to find out as much as possible about the children of one of the poorest countries on the planet, our narrator highlights her own experiences and defines her own personal discoveries.
